Commemorative Medals for New Year's Day London Parade, urgent request to members |
Lead | |
|
Hi all, I have been informed that it was one medal per car and yet I did not get one and neither did Mick who arranged the whole event for us. Therefore, we
would be grateful if you took more than one medal for your car that you pass the medals on to us or any other Mini entry on the day that did not get a Medal
either. Like Mick, I was gutted not to get a medal and it put a downer after such a fab day. I can be contacted direct at naglesummer@yahoo.co.uk. MarkyMoke

6 SMOC Cars did not get a medal either and with one exception, all cars had one medal per car

Both my Son Daniel and myself Dean from SMOC did not get a medal. We were driving the 88 Mayfair and 89 Black Mini, numbers 30 & 31 on the list. Like you
say it was a great day and we would love to have our medals as a momento of the day. Dean.

I was given my one by the guy from lsmoc at the end of the parade, who tried to arrange everyone in order at the london eye. 3DDDminis you probably did not get
yours as i saw both your cars stopped at the coffee shop for a little rest, just before where the rest of us stopped at the end.

Mick has even given up his own medal - I think they may have given out less than 50 to us. I don't want my medal and will bring it to pub on Weds if
someone wants it. If anyone else wants to give theirs up, please let us know

3DDDminis wrote:PM was sent. As I have explained to a few by email, I gave out the commerative medals on the understanding of one per car. I had no idea how many medals were issued to us but I do remember that last year we had enough for two per car but because of the weight of the package I soon realised that there were not 100 medals inside. After the parade I went to the very front of the procession that was parked up towards Hyde Park Corner. Walking from the front and ending up near the rear I presented one medal to each car. However, there were also people approaching me asking for their medals as I was walking along. I know for a fact that there was one couple, possibly two, that received more than they should have because as I gave a medal to the driver I had inadvertanly given one as well to the passenger who had approached me on foot. Yes, it is true, I even gave my medal away. I gave it to Perry Miller of Essex Mini Club who attended in his Hornet. I did this because, 1, he did not get one and, 2, it was because of his invite that I received from his club to attend the NYDP in 2005 that I have done the parade ever since. Organising an event like this can be a thankless task. It is no exaggeration to reveal to you all that in total over 200 emails were sent by myself, Gary and Nick Kidd from the organisers to each other and to our members to ensure that you all had a space and were made to feel welcome. If any of you think it is easy then why don't you try and organise something involving 50 Minis? - you will soon realise some of the effort we put in for you guys. I know Gary has emailed the parade organiser regarding any spare medals and we are awaiting for his reply. Mick LSMOC Events Team. |

The organisers are sending us 10 more medals in addition to the 50 issued on the day. Some people must have taken more than one per car. Including LSMOC I am
aware of 7 cars that would like one, this leaves 3 spares for anyone who really did not get one.

I now have 10 medals for those who want one. Please email me at events@smoc.co.uk and I'll hold one until I next see you. They would need posting in a
jiffy bag, so I'd rather not post them. You can of course send a jiffy bag SAE and I'll post them then
