We had to agree that we will be putting on a joint theme and that it will be of interest to the general public. Our idea was to do the Silver Jubilee of the London to Brighton Run, with 25 cars, 1 from each year from 1985 - 2009.
You need to be sober and ready at 10am at Blackheath T Hut, Then onto ASDA on Old Kent Road for 10.30am where we meet LSMOC. We will leave in order and aim to arive on Picadilly for 11.15am - we are entrant 66. The run goes in reverse this year and should finish by 2 pm. SMOC will then reconvene at ASDA/McDonalds on Old Kent Road.
If you are on the list and cannot go please email gary.smoc@talk21.com and mickhough@o2.co.uk
Each car will receive a 25 years of L2B run plaque. Please can you decorate your car and person with silver anniversary items.
Below is an email sent to LSMOC members
Please read the following email and let me know your preferred meeting point.
Hi
May I first of all apologise for the lack of information recently regarding the above event. The most important thing that I need to tell you is that you have been selected to take part!
There have been some major changes to the route this year and this has created a bit of a headache for me with regards to our normal meeting place, in London, of the London Eye. As a result of this the two clubs taking part in this event, LSMOC and SMOC, have now decided that the central London meeting point will now be at the Asda car park in the Old Kent Road. The postal address is:
Asda Stores Ltd
464-504 Old Kent Road, London, SE1 5AG
We plan to arrive here by 10.30am and plan to leave within 15 minutes. I have also been informed that there is a McDonalds on site that will open to those of you that so desire to indulge(?)
We are taking part once again and this time it is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the London to Brighton Mini run in 2010. I have been able to persuade the club to issue a very unique and extremely limited edition commemorative run plaque which will only be available to those that take part! (that will upset all the anoraks who insist that they have every run plaque from the L2B!)The 25 plaques are with me at the moment and they will be issued on the day. It would also be nice if you could have some balloons/banners celebrating 25 years but I am not insisting on it - it's just a suggestion.
We are assembly number 66 which means we are approximately half way in the parade itself. Our allocated parking spot will be opposite Clarges street in Piccadilly where we have a 40 metre spot but before we get there we will need to meet to arrange the cars and issue the permits to enter the parade arena. For LSMOC members there will be the usual McDonalds spot in South London
935/943 London Road
Thornton Heath, CR7 6XJ
The plan is to meet here by from 09.00am and we should be on our way by 09.45am which give everyone a chance to have a warm coffee. We will then travel to the Old Kent Road to meet up with SMOC and the other members of LSMOC to arrange the final instructions. By now everyone who is eligible to participate will have the relevant permit and run plaque.
Once we arrive in Piccadilly the following information may be of use to you:
Toilets are located in the south side of Berkeley Square and at Green Park tube station. A First Aid Post is located in Piccadilly at the corner of the Ritz Hotel. There will be no catering facilities in the assembly area. If you feel that you may need something to eat or drink, then please bring it with you.
We have been asked that if we are near musical entries that we do not sound our horns continuously. Keep a safe distance from those in front. Once again commemorative medals will be issued at the end and this year I plan to get one for myself after missing out last year. I have asked for two per car so there should be plenty. Once the parade is over I have been led to believe that we should be able park up in Millbank so that we can distribute them to you.
Lastly I would like to thank you for your participation in this event. It was a struggle to persuade the organisers to take us once again and without your support none of this would have been possible.
Please inform me as soon as possible about your preferred meeting point: Old Kent road at 10.30am or Thornton Heath from 09.00am. My mobile number is 07930 390 833 should you need to contact me.
Thanks again and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
Mick Hough
LSMOC committee member.
